In August 2025, we published a social media post debunking the viral “Egyptian aiding Gaza” photos, which are AI-generated. That initial fact-check has now been consolidated and expanded into this comprehensive report.
Claim:
On July 24, 2024, an X post claimed: “Egyptian youth placed food, baby formula, rice, and flour in bottles and threw them into the sea, hoping it would reach Gaza.” The post included photos showing plastic bottles filled with a white substance, labeled “People of Egypt to Gaza” in Arabic, and depicted individuals throwing bottles into water.

A reverse image search of the photos in the post found no credible news reports, humanitarian organization updates, or verified social media accounts documenting this specific activity in Egypt related to Gaza.
- Visual red flag
Inconsistent Thumbs: Analysis of the photos revealed unnatural and inconsistent features in the thumbs of the person(s) holding the bottles
Implausible Buoyancy: The bottles, allegedly filled with dense substances like rice, flour, and baby formula, are shown floating unrealistically high in the water. Physics dictates that bottles packed with such materials would sit much lower in the water or potentially sink entirely. Their depicted buoyancy is physically inconsistent with the described contents.
